CUYC's Cruising and Adventurous Sailing Section is the most active part of the club.
Skylark, our Beneteau First 40.7, is out on trips most weekends from her base in Ipswich. This could be sailing up the Thames or over to Belgium or the Netherlands. Trips are very popular but we try to run enough that everyone who wants to go sailing gets the chance.
Do you want to go on a club trip?
For many trips, no sailing experience is necessary, and all trips are lead my an RYA Yachtmaster qualified skipper and a qualified first mate, meaning that you're always in safe hands. The only requirement to go on a trip is being a club member, this is a simple process that you can complete when you sign up for a trip. For more information on how membership of CUYC works see the membership page.
Types of Sailing Trip:
Day Sails:
The perfect yacht sailing taster session, or a breath of sea air for those looking to escape Cambridge for a day! Setting off from Cambridge in the morning, by 10 am you'll be sailing Skylark down the serene River Orwell to peek out into the open sea. Lunch on a mooring, a brief exploration of the River Stour, a meander back up the Orwell to Ipswich, and you'll be back in Cambridge by 7.30 pm, rejuvenated!
Weekend Cruising Trips:
Great for all experience levels, these trips usually run from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Accomodation is provided on board for two nights. You'll leave Ipswich on Saturday morning and spend the day sailing to a nearby location on the East coast, stay for the evening and then sail back on Sunday.
Adventurous Trips:
Aimed at the more experience sailor, the club's adventurous trips are a great way to build miles and spend the weekend somewhere great. These trips generally run from Friday to Monday and sail across the north sea or the channel. They're often weather dependent.
The Summer Programme:
Every summer CUYC takes one of their yachts on a long distance trip. Members book on for a week long trips and there's a mix of cruising and loger distance passage sailing available. The programme is hugely popular and has become a key feature of the club's year. Past programme have included the Med, the Baltic and sailing round the UK.
