VHF/SRC Radio Licence

The course teaches the operation of DSC VHF radios as used on all yachts, including: correct voice procedures, Mayday procedures, GMDSS & DSC working, and the full theory of marine radio communications.

Pre-course requirements: Some sailing experience is recommended (e.g. at least one weekend)

Course Length: 1 Day

This course is requirement for: RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore Certificates of Competence. Required for all CUYC Skippers; strongly recommended for CUYC First Mates.

RYA First Aid Course

This course teaches the candidates how to deal with all medical emergencies on board, including bleeding, ressucitation, hypothermia, burns, suturing, and the use of category C drugs.

Pre-course requirements: Some sailing experience is recommended (e.g. at least one weekend)

Course Length: 1 Day

This course is requirement for: RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore Certificates of Competence. Required for all CUYC Skippers; strongly recommended for CUYC First Mates. (NB: Other first aid certificates may also be acceptable if they contain instruction on hypothemia management - check with the VC Training)

RYA/MCA Sea Survival Course

This is an RYA course which discusses safety equipment on board and the use thereof, survival techiques, liferafts and SAR operations.

Pre-course requirements: Some sailing experience is recommended (e.g. at least one weekend); in general suitable for members interested in becoming CUYC First Mates or CUYC Skippers.

Course Length: 1 Day

This course is requirement for: Gaining commercial endorsement of a Certificate of Competence (not required by CUY)

Diesel Engine Course

This course covers the principles of a diesel engine, as well as maintenance and troubleshooting.

This course is requirement for: None. Recommended for CUYC Skippers and CUYC First Mates.

RYA Radar Course

This course not (yet) offered by CUY. The course teaches the principles and use of a radar on a boat. If such a course is desired please contact the Training Officer.
