There is loads of info about all the trips this summer and the other activities of the club elsewhere on these webpages.
This summer we will be sending our yachts in search of some of the most stunning scenery in the world. With the fjords of Norway, the rugged coast of Western Ireland and famed islands of North west Scotland every single week will include exciting sailing, stays in beautiful anchorages and great parties on board.
Kestrel and Puffin will each complete epic voyages around the British Isles, much of it sailing companionably together. You, as the crew, are free to join them on as much of it as you choose. Handily we split it up into week long trips, with a changeover of crew each weekend, so you are free to pick your favourite bit.
Whether you are new to yachting, and want to take this chance to get involved while in the best surroundings, or are an old salt keen on putting your skills to the test somewhere a little more remote than Ipswich then there will surely be something for you. At a cost of only £166 per week this is also the best value you could see yacht sailing. We would love to see as many new people enjoying our hobby and our yachts as we think they deserve!
As you see from the map - our coverage of the British isles and North sea will be extensive!
Have a browse through the individual pages for each trip on the web page for more info.
The voyage:
Kestrel will leave the UK late in May and cross the North sea for Norway where she will spend a few weeks in the fjords. From there she will pass the Orkney and Shetland Islands on her way North of Scotland, cruising down through the Western Isles.
Puffin on the other hand, will travel around the Atlantic coast of Ireland on her way to meet Kestrel in Scotland. This is the first year we have had two yachts to play with, so for the rest of the summer both boats will explore Scotland together before heading in tandem back around to Ipswich. Sailing with two boats is so much fun we hope this will be one of the best summers yet.
The yachts:
Kestrel, a Sigma 38, has been owned and run by CUYC since 2008 and has completed 5 fantastic summer programmes. Renowned as a classic offshore yacht the sailing qualities of Kestrel are recognised by all who sail on her.
Puffin was acquired at the end of 2012 and is a modern Beneteau First 300. Lighter than Kestrel, she is lively and fun to sail, and easily matches her for speed! Rest assured both boats are equipped with everything needed for comfy living, with berths (beds), a galley (kitchen) and head (toilet...)
The individual trips:
All trips are one week long unless noted otherwise. The map only shows start and end point of trips as well as their general route; rest assured that there will be many more stops on the way!
