2024 Yacht Racing Squad
Cambridge Crew for The 2023 Prometheus Sailing Oxford-Cambridge Varsity Regatta
The Team
Founded in 2003, the CUYC Race Squad organizes and participates in an extensive program of yacht racing, comprising both training events and races. The annual highlights in the racing calendar are the BUSA Yachting Nationals and the Varsity Yacht Race. For these races CUYC puts forward a selected all-student crew. At Cambridge, yacht racing is a discretionary full-blue: students are awarded full blues status if the squad acheives 2nd place or above at BUSA, or half-blue for 7th place or above.
Training takes place on either the club's yacht Skylark or charters, whilst racing is usually done on chartered boats in the Solent,

The Sport Yacht racing, described by Jim Saltonstall (GB Olympic Team Coach) as 'the most challenging and complex sport in the world' combines many different aspects, from self-preparation, team-work and boat handling through to tactics and meteorology. It therefore gives excellent opportunities for improving sailing skills. By bringing together experienced yacht racers with ambitious sailors new to competitive sailing, the Racing Team increases the yacht racing experience of CUYC members. |
