All kit should be packed into a collapsible holdall. General limit is 900mm x 450mm x 450mm, or equivalent volume. Please do not bring rigid suitcases: there is no room on the boat for them. Rucksacks should only be brought if they have a removable frame or are reasonably collapsable. Any problems with this please e-mail Philip Sargent (profile).
All kit should be packed in plastic bags or the holdall lined with a waterproof liner (e.g. bin liner) - hatches have been known to leak sometimes!
The following is a recommended kit list. It is not exhaustive so please feel free to bring additional items if you wish, but do keep valuables to a minimum.
Bring appropriate quantity of base layer clothes to match the duration of your trip. In addition, include a complete spare set in case you get wet! Do not rely on being able to wash your clothes at all as they do not dry easily at sea, especially in the winter.
This is the Med., so it will be warmer than the N.Sea, but could be wet.
Waterproofs need to be reasonably substantial but not ocean/offshore gear. Essentially they need to keep you dry for up to 4 hours. For this Med. trip in mid-April, a jacket with a reasonable length is fine.
For this trip, waterproof trousers will be less essential providing you have more than one pair of jeans/trousers. You don't have to bring waterproof trousers, and if you do, lightweight ones will be fine. Even if wet, you won't get too cold; and the Skipper, First Mate and some other crew will have full wet-weather gear so you can always hide inside the cabin.
If yo have not sailed before, PLEASE check your waterproofs with Philip Sargent (profile), the trip organiser. Although not all trips plan to encounter splashy sailing, it may be chilly on the water and might rain, so waterproofs are a very good idea indeed especially if you feel queezy and want to be in the fresh air.
Boots will keep you dry and provide better grip; but for this trip trainers are fine.
If you do not own suitable waterproofs/boots, the club has proper sailing gear by Gill and Musto which can be hired for the price of £18. Boots can be hired for £2. To hire, e-mail Philip Sargent (profile) with your size. Be sure to give plenty of advance notice (at least 3 weeks) as other trips are happening at this time, and the jackets will need to be collected from Kestrel in Ipswich.
Please do not forget to pack your sleeping bag. If it is sunny, it could get quite hot and a sheet sleeping bag might be useful. If you do not have a sleeping bag in Cambridge and cannot borrow one from a friend, please get in touch with Philip Sargent (profile), we might be able to help you out. You can buy one from Millets for £10.
