Overview of the Course and SyllabusSyllabus
The course will cover all aspects of navigation, meteorology, safety, and seamanship to RYA Day Skipper level. The course will be taught by an experienced instructor. The course will meet the latest specifications set out by the RYA and all of the course materials have been updated and expanded for the online format.
Format The course will run over 3 weekends in person in Cambridge (9am to 5pm). The first two weekends will cover all of the theory with the final weekend dedicated to revision and the exam.
Homework There is at least 3 hours of homework to complete each week. It is vital that you can commit to completing the homework exercises. In addition to this we recommend that you spend at least another hour looking over the week's material.
Exams The course features 2 exams: General Questions and Chartwork
Certificate Upon successful completion of this course you will receive an RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Certificate. This certificate covers all of the relevant theory up to RYA Day Skipper level. Prerequisites There are no formal prerequisites for the course. It is recommended that you have spent at least a day sailing on board a yacht. If in doubt, please contact the course organiser Course Administration DetailsThe cost of the course includes a student course pack, training charts, excercise booklet and course notes. Plotters and dividers are essential for the course so you must select these if you do not already have them. An IRPCS booklet is also recommended.
