This week in CUYC
Posted on the 23rd February at 11:24 p.m.
Yesterday Tara (VC Ops) and I (Commodore) set out with new Club instructor, John Eacott, for a day of general Yachtmaster exam practice - marina manoeuvres and some tight, short-handed gybing heading down the Orwell.
This morning we woke up to a frosting on the deck and a clear sky - the cold front of yesterday having finally passed over and the weather consequently having improved. With Tara's aid, I finally affixed Skylark's name and Club acronym/burgee to her transom - something I had been wanting to do for quite some time! She looked quite lovely tied up neatly in Ipswich awaiting her next lot of budding CUYC sailors...
Next on the Club agenda is a couple of Instructor Day Sails for novice crew - again with instructor John - on Thursday and Friday as well as the first race training weekend for the Club's newly finalised competition crew for the BUSA Yachting Championships this weekend. BUSA is the annual inter-university, national sailing competition and will be an exciting event to follow for the Club in early April, especially with the stronger-than-ever racing squad we have seen develop this academic year under careful leadership of Racing Officer Laurence Cochrane.
Keep a look out on the 'Programme' page of this website along with emails from the mailing list for upcoming trips. The Committee works extremely hard behind the scenes to keep the Club running and equally is quite the heart and soul of CUYC. If you are interested in joining this tight-knit community and to lend a hand with organisation, please do get in touch with me, Callum.
