Solent Cruising

In January 2012 we set of from the river Hamble near Southhampton, through the Solent and further into Poole. After a beautiful Saturday we were not blessed with much wind on Sunday, but had a great trip nonetheless. You can watch the video from our Solent Cruising Trip on Vimeo.
We chartered an Oceanis 37 in the Hamble and when we arrived at the boat on Friday night, we were still quite keen to set off for a few hours. Unfortunately the weather didn't seem to like our plans and we decided to have a pint instead of motoring around in the rain. The Great Escape was brand new, with only 800miles on the log when we set off.

Saturday greeted us with beautiful sunshine and decent winds from NW and after creeping out of the Hamble Matt finally let Greg, Tim and Igor fly the asymmetric. We had a great sail through the Needles and only as we were making way towards Poole bay the clouds slowly moved in. In Poole the marina is right next to The Quay with its many pubs and the entire crew was more than happy to take a closer look. The early start on Sunday morning, which was required to get The Great Escape back up the Hamble in time, was easier for some crew members than for others, but by 9a.m. we left the marina and were making good time towards the Needles with light NW winds. By the time we did reach the Isle of Wight, the wind had pretty much died and we decided to motor the rest of the way through the Solent and perfectly calm seas. At least this allowed us to try out the great cockpit table with optional plug-in candle light.
Feel free to watch the video above or some photos in the photo section.
All in all it was a great sail on Saturday and a relaxed return on Sunday.
