Helicopter drills on Puffin
Posted on the 18th January at 1:30 a.m.
In a culmination of a fantastic first term's use of Puffin, the club's new training yacht, we took part in a drill with the SAR helicopter on the East Coast.
With several weekends of Day Skipper training, we finished off by qualifying three new skippers, Oliver Beardon, Tessa de Roo and Seb Falk, all as Coastal Yachtmasters. As part of their training, we arranged a live helicopter drill! A very serious Oliver on the helm was complemented for his excellent course holding, and the winch man left with a few snacks for the flight crew.
2013 has already got off to a flying (pun intended!) start with two of our longstanding skippers, Matt Scott and Dan Murray, upgrading to Yachtmaster Offshore, and several brave crews signed up to battle the elements on two winter weekends.
We'll look forward to seeing all of you out on the water (or in the pub...), and look out for trips from our latest crop of skippers.
