Details of the upcoming Separation of the Yaching Section (CUYC) from the Cambridge University Cruising Club.
Notice was given on the 18th February 2013 of a Special General Meeting of the University Cruising Club to approve the Separation of the Yachting Section (known as CUYC) to form a separate Club. This Blog details what this means and why it is happening. | |
The Cambridge University Cruising Club (CUCrC)
The Yachting Section, recently known as CUYC, has been a section of CUCrC for the past 10 years. They have offered support to help the expansion of the Yachting Club both through advice and financial support for the purchase of Kestrel, without which we would not be the club we are today. |

The Separation
In recent times, due to a couple of issues arrising through the expansion of CUYC, discussions were had as to whether CUYC would benefit from being a separate club. To this end the Committee of CUYC voted in October 2012 to ask for formal separation from CUCrC and more recently in January 2012 approved the terms of the separation with the General Committee of CUCrC. Registration of an independent CUYC has begun with the Proctors. |

Benefits to CUYC
CUYC will be able to operate more independently and offer the same range of activities as we do currently. There will be no direct effects to the Sailing Programme. However there will be benefits in the running of the clubs with Officers able to devote more time to those activities. |

Special General Meetings ??
For the Yachting Section (CUYC) to leave the Cruising Club the Constitution of the Cruising Club needs to be changed. This is done by the SGM mentioned in Honor's Email. I would encourage members to attend and support the formation of CUYC. |

The Future: an Independent CUYC
Going forward CUYC will continue to offer fantastic oppotunities for affordable and exciting Yacht Sailing and are planning an exciting Summer Programme already.... |
